The latest round of talks between Syria and Israel started cautiously, madeprogress on the issue of security, and then ran into trouble when the Israelisdecided to insist that the Syrians must commit themselves to a "full"peace treaty before the question of territory can be discussed. (Israel alsoappears to be trying to de-link any agreement with Syria from other aspects ofthe Arab-Israeli conflict, which could spell trouble in the future.)...
