US Allows Limited Imports of Iranian Oil
A US State Department spokesman announced on 19 December that PresidentGeorge Bush had signed a directive permitting US oil firms to apply for limitedlicenses, which would be granted on a case by case basis, for the import ofIranian crude oil to the US. The spokesman added that the proceeds from thesales would help replenish the escrow account of the US-Iranian tribunal fund inThe Hague.
