US Blocks Export of Industrial Furnaces to Iraq
US President George Bush has blocked the export of three advanced industrialfurnaces to Iraq on the grounds that they may be used to develop nuclearweapons. A report in the New York Times on 20 July said the White House made thedecision at the urging of the Pentagon and Republican senators. The group citedevidence that the furnaces would be installed at an Iraqi military complex southof Baghdad.
