Damage and Casualties in the Tanker War
There were 550 vessels attacked and 430 sailors killed in the Gulf waters asa result of the eight-year war between Iraq and Iran, according to Lloyd's List.In a special supplement, the London-based daily noted that the tanker war alsoresulted in "more merchant shipping tonnage being attacked during the Gulfwar than in the Second World War - a reflection of the size of modern day oiltankers."
