Freeport Signs Sulphur Exploration Agreement with Egypt
On 27 July Freeport Sulphur Company of the US signed an agreement with the Egyptian Geological Survey and Mining Authority (EGSMA) to explore for sulphur in 1,250 sq. kms. in the al-'Arish area in Sinai. The agreement, which was initiated last year (MEES, 23 June 1986), requires Freeport to spend about $6mn on exploration over a period of six years.
