Qatar Records First Current Account Deficit
Qatar recorded its first ever current account deficit in 1986, according to the Qatar Monetary Agency (QMA), which last week published its tenth annual report for 1986. The QMA figures show that Qatar's exports declined by 40% in 1986 while its imports were down only 3.5%, so that a current account surplus of QR2bn in 1985 was turned into a deficit of QR707mn ($194mn) in 1986.
