Five More Tankers Attacked in Gulf War
In the week between 1 and 8 May, in an escalation of the Gulf war between Iraq and Iran, five tankers were attacked in the Gulf - three by Iraq and two by Iran. On 1 May, the 47,813 dwt Saudi tanker al-Safaniyah - owned by the Petromin Tankers and Mineral Shipping Company (Petroship) - was hit by two missiles fired from an Iranian helicopter at a point 75 miles northwest of Abu Dhabi.
