US Oil Companies Cease Operations; Legal Status in Suspended Animation
The five US oil companies holding concessions in Libya (Occidental, Conoco, Marathon, Amerada Hess and W.R. Grace) have met the 30 June deadline set by President Reagan for halting US business activities in Libya. The Executive Order issued last January, and amended in February, called upon the oil companies to cease operations, stop lifting crude oil and halt payments to the Libyan authorities by 30 June....
