US and Egypt Sign Four Aid Accords Worth $575mn
The United States and Egypt signed four aid agreements worth $575mn during President Mubarak's recent visit to Washington (MEES, 18 March). The grants, which were signed on 12 and 13 March, constitute nearly two-thirds of USAID's FY 1985 program in Egypt, and comprise:
-$200mn for commodity imports and $100mn in cash transfers, both to alleviate Egypt's balance of payments problems.
