Russia and China have vetoed a UN resolution endorsing the Arab League plan to end the crisis in Syria. The signature of a reconciliation agreement between the two main Palestinian parties, Fatah and Hamas, has opened rifts in the ranks of Hamas. In Iraq, the Sunni-backed Iraqiyya party has resumed full participation in the government.
