Sudan Starts Up Merowe Dam Hydropower Scheme
Hydroelectric power generation from Sudans giant Merowe Dam began earlier this month, according to Sudanese state media. The first two turbines at the Merowe Dam, which is located about 350km north of Khartoum and has a planned total generation capacity of 1.25gw, started running at operational speed on 5 February.
