Shake-Up May Lead Qatar To Scale Back Foreign Policy Ambitions
Qatar’s 61-year old Amir, Shaikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, is poised to step down in favor of his son, the 33-year old Crown Prince Shaikh Tamim bin Hamad, reports from Doha indicate.
This would be the first time in three generations that the succession has passed smoothly. Both Shaikh Tamim’s father (in 1995) and his grandfather came to power through coups.
