Syria Bans Transactions In Foreign Currency
In a bid to boost the value of the sliding Syrian pound, President Bashar al-Asad on 4 August issued a decree banning all commercial transactions in any currency other than the pound.
The decree also prohibits the pricing of commodities or services in currencies other than the local currency, which has lost more than half its value on the official market since the beginning of the uprising in March 2011.
