Sonatrach has tweaked its petchems and fertilizers strategy. Yet the changes do nothing to reduce concerns over availability of already overstretched gas supplies.

Algeria’s energy ministry has outlined plans for new petrochemicals and fertilizers projects, which it says are mainly intended for completion by the end of 2020 at an estimated combined cost of $18bn. Six petchems/fertilizers plants and two non-petroleum based fertilizer plants are in the revised plan.
