Eni is ramping up output from its giant Zohr field offshore Egypt. Initial findings show the firm could be sitting on another giant further east. Drilling is slated for August.

Egypt is closing in on gas independence after three years of LNG imports. Output hit a six-year high 6bn cfd in June (see chart 1) and will reach an all-time high 6.5bn cfd in September according to oil minister Tariq al-Mulla.
