Oil and gas fired projects dominate recent start-ups but renewables are planned.

Saudi Arabia’s total installed generating capacity has topped 90GW as a result of the start-up of a number of oil and gas fired plants in 2016-17 and early 2018. While almost 15GW of new plants under construction are mainly conventional oil and gas fired, the Ministry of Energy is increasingly pushing utility-scale wind and solar projects, and a nuclear power project (see table).
