Tehran mayor Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has scored an upset victory in the second round of Irans presidential elections. President Bush has been trying to rally dwindling domestic support for his Iraq policy. The Iraqi government has denied that it has been party to talks with the insurgents. And the US has taken to freezing the assets of senior Syrian officials.
