Yemen Issues Law For 5% Sales Tax
Yemeni president 'Ali 'Abd Allah Salih on 21 July issued a new law which imposes a 5% sales tax on local and imported goods and services. The government had tried over the past two years to levy a 10% sales tax but Yemeni businessmen and traders strongly opposed it, prompting Mr Salih to propose a reduction in the tax to 5% a few weeks ago.
