The Muslim Brotherhood has made further gains in the second round of Egypts general election. Syria and the UN have agreed that senior Syrian officials will travel to Vienna to meet with the Mehlis commission. In Israel, Shimon Peres has quit the Labour party to back Prime Minister Ariel Sharons new Kadima party. The UAE has taken a tentative step in the direction of democracy.
