Libya Agrees Compensation In UTA Bombing Case
Libya signed an agreement on 9 January with France under which it will pay $170mn in compensation to the families of the victims of the bombing of a French UTA airliner over Niger in 1989. The compensation deal was followed by an agreement signed by French Foreign Minister Dominic de Villepin and his Libyan counterpart Muhammad Shalgam aimed at boosting diplomatic and economic ties between the two countries.
