UN Security Council Threatens Oil Sanctions On Sudan
The UN Security Council passed a resolution on 18 September threatening Sudan with oil sanctions if it did not do more to rein in Janjawid militias in the western Darfur region. The council voted by 11-0 for US-drafted Resolution 1564, with abstentions by China, Russia, Pakistan and Algeria.
