The Political Scene
Faced with French and Russian opposition, the US appears to have compromised on its demand for Security Council approval for the use of force against Iraq. Turkey, as ever, is nervous about the intentions of Iraqs Kurds in their northern enclave. Israeli Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has been in Washington. And the Lebanese have ignored Israeli threats and gone ahead with a project to use the waters of the Wazzani river.
