Syria Approves Banking Secrecy Law

The Syrian parliament approved a new law on bank secrecy on 19 March is intended to facilitate the establishment of private sector banks in the country pending parliamentary approval of the decree allowing private banks to operate in the local market (MEES, 11 December 2000), which is expected by the end of the month.
