The Political Scene
Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak has survived a crisis within his coalition government, but at some cost to his reputation and very possibly to the peace negotiations with the Palestinians. The Lebanese government does not share UN Secretary-General Kofi Annans view that Israel has complied with resolution 425, but is nonetheless coming under international pressure to send its army into the south of the country.
