The Political Scene
As the summer doldrums grip the region, the Americans have been trying to decide whether the time is ripe for a three-way summit with Israel and the Palestinians in an effort to resolve final status issues and the answer looks like no. However, things may become more lively as the 13 September deadline for an agreement approaches, particularly if the Palestinians follow through on their pledge to declare a state regardless.
