The Camp David summit ended after 15 days without producing a final status agreement but without delivering the coup de grace to the peace process either. Both Israelis and Palestinians appeared to feel that confronting the previously taboo issues at the center of their conflict was an achievement in itself, even if it revealed that as far as Jerusalem is concerned the positions of the two sides seem irreconcilable.
