The Political Scene
As cynics (and Col Qadhafi) predicted, the Arab summit in Cairo produced angry words but little in the way of action. Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak seized on the results to declare a time out in the peace process, while the Palestinians and the Egyptians called for new ground rules (and participants) if the negotiations are to be revived. While the outcome of the summit was predictable, there were some surprises along the way.
