Israeli Labour leader Ehud Barak has been elected primeminister by what, in Israeli terms, is a landslide, and the results of thesimultaneous parliamentary elections suggest he should not have too muchtrouble forming a coalition. Mr. Baraks election will presumably unfreeze thedeadlock on the Palestinian track of the peace process, but he has staked out atough opening position in the final status talks.
