The Political Scene
A decision by the Israeli Government to allow thecontinuation of 30 Jewish settlements in the West Bank, which it concedes havebeen built illegally, has further dimmed the prospects for final statusnegotiations with the Palestinians. As the US ponders its next move over Iraq,it has again ruled out dialogue with Baghdad. And Saudi Arabia has been tryingto ease tension between Algeria and Morocco.
