As Hizbollah and the Israelis swapped blows in south Lebanon and Palestinians riotedin the West Bank, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared the "new MiddleEast" to be a thing of the past, and it looks as if only forceful Americanintervention can now save the peace process. Iran and Europe are cautiously investigatingthe possibility of mending their fences.
