The Americans have finally persuaded the Israelis and Palestinians to return to separate negotiating tables. It looks as if the mysterious campaign to disqualify allegedly Ba'thist candidates in Iraq's elections has been called off. Israel has deplored Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's meeting with Hamas leader Khalid Mish'al.
