US Navy Intercepts Tanker Believed Carrying Iraqi Oil
The US Navy frigate USS Reid intercepted a Liberianregistered, Greek-ownedtanker 15 miles off the Iranian coast on 13 October on the suspicion that the29,687-ton Katerina P was carrying Iraqi oil loaded in the port of Khor al-Zubayr.This is the first interception reported by the US Navy concerning a shipsuspected of carrying Iraq oil in violation of UN sanctions.
