The American attempt to shift the emphasis on the Syrian track of the peacenegotiations to security appears only to have revealed yet another issue onwhich the Syrians and Israelis disagree diametrically in principle. A furtherappeal for a negotiated settlement of Algeria's problems by the head of theArmee Islamique du Salut is likely to fall on deaf ears.
