Iraq Attacks Lavan Island and Tabriz Refinery: Larak Threatened
On 5 September Iraqi jets attacked Lavan Island (some 210 miles southeast of Kharg) and hit the 25,244dwt Iranian- owned products carrier Mokran and four storage tanks. Lavan is used both for crude oil exports from offshore fields and as a despatch point for imported petroleum products. Iraq also attacked the 80,000 b/d Tabriz refinery and a nearby power station twice during the last week.
