Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Bahrain and Kuwait are eyeing starting or expanding pipeline and LNG imports, but are progressing at different rates. Dubai has tried to reduce residential gas consumption by increasing electricity tariffs – a bold move in the Gulf where few governments risk cutting subsidies.
