Egyptian Central Bank Relaxes Credit Rules

The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) has taken steps to relax rules governingcommercial bank credit after 18 months of tight blanket restrictions whichlimited the overall growth of credit to 2.5%, which in real terms is negative.In any case bank lending was on the decline in Egypt, with aggregate loansdropping from E20.1bn in June 1987 to E18.1bn in March 1988.
