Syrian Cabinet Approves 2006 Draft Budget
The Syrian cabinet on 25 October approved the draft budget for 2006 which projects an increase of 7.6% in total spending to S495bn ($9.5bn) from S460bn ($8.8bn) in 2005 (MEES, 7 March). The 2006 aggregate figure consists of S300bn ($5.8bn) for current expenditure, up from S280bn ($5.4bn) in 2005, and S195bn ($3.7bn) for capital expenditure, up from S180bn ($3.5bn) in 2005.
