The Political Scene
A saber-rattlingspeech on Iraq by US Vice President Dick Cheney was probably meant as a response to a chorusof criticism of the neo-conservative hawks in Washington from the likes ofBrent Scowcroft, Lawrence Eagleberger, James Baker, Richard Holbrookeand General Anthony Zinni. Some mainstreamRepublicans are showing signs of restiveness as well. The Europeans and Arabshave also continued to voice opposition to an American assault on Iraq.
