The Political Scene
Iranian President Mohammad Khatami has been reelected by an even greater majority than in 1997. Saudi Arabias seizure of Iraqs IPSA pipeline signals that a rapprochement between the two countries is not on the cards. In Algeria, unrest appears to be spreading from the mainly Berber Kabylie district to elsewhere in the country. And CIA chief George Tenet has brokered a cease-fire of sorts between the Israelis and Palestinians.
