Iraq Recaptures Northern Part of Majnoon Oilfield
Iraq's armed forces succeeded on 25 June in recapturing the remaining andfinal part of the Majnoon oilfield, four and a half years after its occupationby Iran. The Majnoon islands, a network of sandy islets linked by eartherncauseways and pontoon bridges in the 2,580 sq. km. southern Huwaizah marshes ofIraq, are located some 7 kms. west of the Iranian border and 435 kms. southeastof Baghdad.
