The Middle East Situation

Continued attacks on shipping in the Gulf have brought about a situationwhich none of the states of the region wanted to see: heightened superpowerinvolvement in the area, and a stepped-up naval presence, especially on the partof the US. The reported introduction of Iranian on-shore missiles near Hormuz,and the likelihood of US naval escorts for convoys on the Arab side of the Gulf,have added new elements of tension to the region.
