Unrest Sweeps North Africa
Protests against economic hardships and government repression in Tunisia and Algeria turned deadly early this month. Tunisia saw the most brutal clashes, with over 40 people having lost their lives, as MEES went to press. The regime was itself looking shaky. In Algeria two people were killed and hundreds injured as police and soldiers were deployed to clamp down on the demonstrators.
