The Political Scene
The Algerian authorities are trying to deal with continuing riots and demonstrations in the Kabylie district, the home of the countrys indigenous Berber population. There have been desultory discussions with the Israelis on an Egyptian-Jordanian initiative to end the violence in the occupied territories, but there are few signs of any breakthrough.
