The Political Scene
The hastily convened summit at Sharm al-Shaikh produced an American statement rather than a Palestinian-Israeli agreement to turn down the heat in the occupied territories. Afterwards there was a slight, if perceptible, fall off in the violence on the ground, but no-one doubted that what is now being called the al-Aqsaintifada could flare up again at any moment.
