Suez Canal Petroleum Traffic Down 30.4% In 1995
Despite measures taken by the Suez Canal Authority to boost tanker traffic through the waterway, the volume of crude oil and petroleum products passing through the canal in both directions dropped by 30.4% to 41,374,000 tons (32,348,000 tons northbound and 9,026,000 tons southbound) in 1995 from 59,408,000 tons (50,120,000 tons northbound and 9,288,000 tons southbound) in 1994 (see table overleaf).
