A new catalytic cracking unit was commissioned earlier this month at Syria's6mn ton/year (120,000-b/d) refinery at Banias, which will raise local productionof gas oil by 280,000 t/y from 3.6mn t/y to 3.88mn t/y, thus enabling Syria tobecome nearly self-sufficient for gas oil.
