Arab External Debt Grows 14% in 1985
The total external debt of 18 Arab countries grew by 14.4% to reach $140.9bn at the end of 1985, according to figures recently published by the OECD, compared to $123.2bn at the end of 1984. These countries' long-term debt grew by 10.3% from $83.44bn to $92bn at the end of 1985, and they spent $23.4bn servicing their external debt during 1985, compared with $22.4bn the previous year.
