Iraq Claims Recapture of Part of Majnoon Oilfield
An Iraqi military spokesman announced on 27 June that Iraqi forces had recaptured part of the Majnoon oilfield in the southeastern part of the country, which was seized by Iran in February 1984. The spokesman added that the attack took place along a 1,200 meter front, with 10,000 Iraqi troops participating. Iran has denied the claim.
The Majnoon field is very close to the Iranian border, about 50 kms. north of Basrah and 20 kms....
