US President Barack Obama has sent a conciliatory message to Iran's leaders and people on the occasion of the Iranian new year. Former Iranian president Mohammad Khatami is no longer in the running for the June presidential election. Kuwait is to have its second parliamentary election in a year. Lebanon has raised the flag over its embassy in Damascus.
